beautiful women eating disorders are women dying to be beautiful many women are concerned with their appearance too many of them are caught up with the image of being skinny and pretty by seeing all the beautiful thin women in the media and in society they may feel insecure about the way they look therefore they try and do anything they can to acquire that appearance methods they use to try and achieve this are by self starvation known as anorexia or induced vomiting known as bulimia anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are only two of the eating disorders that often result from their incessant desire to be thin and quot beautiful quot over time being thin has become the goal of many women quot thirty three thousand american women told researchers that they would rather lose ten to fifteen pounds than achieve any other goal quot wolf 482 to be beautiful is what everyone strives for to several women quot thin is beautiful quot the ideal female weight is represented by actresses models and miss americas quot consequently 90 95 of american women feel that they don t measure up quot fallon katzman and wooley 8 therefore they will do anything to quot measure up quot and meet the standards the actresses models and miss americas exhibit eing a teenager i feel that we live in a culture where being thin is attractive i feel this way because throughout high school a majority of the guys would pine after the thin pretty girls the girls quot with meat on them quot would often be jealous of therefore feeling they are not thin enough to be beautiful low self esteem and eating disorders would then result from these feelings i personally do not think that quot thin is beautiful quot not only by your exterior but what kind of a person you are and what you have inside makes you beautiful they are both labeled as fat even though they are well below the proportional size of the average woman they publicly lash out at the media telling them women s bodies are too harshly scrutinized and that healthy curves on a woman are beautiful we all agree that this woman is beautiful e tells us that she looks at this picture whenever she begins to believe the myths of airbrushing ldquo once rdquo she says ldquo i showed this picture to tony her boyfriend and asked him what he noticed first and i told him to be brutally honest rdquo e stays silent for a moment to build suspense and then grins image but we know how we ve been influenced and what we believe is beautiful d is now at a healthy weight but she attributes her love of her body to her fiance calling her beautiful every day alex from connecticut says her cartwheels are beautiful alex from connecticut says her cartwheels are beautiful candice from new jersey says her smile is beautifuli discovered more about a cycle of media and mothers than i care to admit mothers being products of the media and their own mothers may hurt their daughters more than help by using aesthetic praises more than those addressing intellect or character the little nudges to shape up put down the fork or get the smaller size may seem encouraging but usually end up being fodder for venting or therapy sessions this kind of negative female impact tied in with the competitiveness of other women drives us to men for a self esteem boost that is something i wish i could have gotten more information on the dependence of women on male attention would the women in my forum have been as happy without that close bond with the men in their lives and that constant reassurance would i well i m not about to leave the love of my life to find that out why is it that women are in the bathroom for hours getting ready and men are in and out in fifteen minutes is it that we care so much about our appearances and men are so much less concerned are women these days so self conscious that some of us can rsquo t leave the house without going through our own long ridiculous beauty process is it that women have lower self esteems than men do women just do it to make themselves feel good what makes men and women see themselves so differently women see themselves as not good enough men generally see themselves as average men don rsquo t ever ask how they look women always say to their friends how do i look do i look fat what about the shoes we are always concerned with their looks it stems back to early childhood what were taught and the toys we grow up playing with from the very beginning we females are doomed girls grow up playing with the perfect figure barbie makeup high heels and dress up clothes boys grow up playing with trucks and ugly action figures that are half human as we grow up we are taught to spend time on our appearance we are taught to do our hair put on makeup paint our nails and basically look pretty men are taught to be tough not care the media plays a huge role in the way we view ourselves also in magazines you see all these ads for clothes perfume shoes which all have these gorgeous models with the perfect bodies the same with television all the commercials music videos and mostly all the shows the media advertises all these skinny big breasted beautiful women with their makeup and hair is perfect that is all we see in the media models and actresses that have these fake perfect bodies all of us grow up watching saved by the bell california dreams and 90210 all of these shows have beautiful skinny actresses and actors we start reading ym and seventeen around the age of thirteen and as we got older we get into cosmo and people all you see in the magazines are beautiful models with these flawless bodies wearing the hottest new styles and having the latest greatest hairstyle this is what we grow up seeing in the media mostly all beautiful skinny people if you actually think about it there are not too many fat or ugly people on television or in magazines and of the few that do appear on television most are in comedic shows i remember when i was growing up watching 90210 and thinking to myself i would give anything to have her looks and figure i loved 90210 and saved by the bell i watched those shows everyday like a routine i would always be trying to do my hair like kelly and brenda rsquo s no wonder we work so hard on the way we look we try to look as good as they do it rsquo s like a big competition that is almost impossible to win it rsquo s like we have to keep up with the stars if we see someone famous some topics in this essay kelly brenda s richard rodriguez cosmo people love hewitt california dreams saved bell ym seventeen self conscious women glamorous eras for women was the 1940s the clothing styles were both tailored and romantic satin and silk lounge wear became a fashion in the evening while suits and dresses were worn during the day more and more women were entering the work force some working in factories making supplies for world war ii while others had office type jobs hats were a common sight many displaying a thin netting covering part of the face a crocheted net called a ldquo snood rdquo was often worn in the back of the head containing long tresses i interviewed my mother jean mckee allen since she was in her early 20s during this time she told me that women would go to the department store called woolworths to purchase all their beauty needs one of the most important hair accessories was a long stuffing type material that you could buy by the yard you placed it in your hair and rolled your hair over it to give volume and width to your style they didn rsquo t have hair spray or many styling aids so the hair was quite soft in appearance the hair was set in flat pin curls with metal bobbie pins and either dried with a hand held dryer or left all day or night to dry on it rsquo s own women usually washed their hair once a week and hardly anyone had a shower in their home only bathtubs you would wash your hair in the kitchen sink unlike today there were only a handful of shampoo companies to choose from a lot of women just used ivory soap permanent waves were popular and took all day the cold wave was not yet invented women would spend all day in the beauty salon with their hair wound around rods that were plugged into an electric machine their hair would often get too hot and break off the cost of a perm was around 2 98 a haircut was 50 cents prior to 1950 only 7 of women dyed
